UNISON is a union representing workers delivering a public service, regardless of who their employer is. UNISON members are people working in the public services, for private and voluntary sector employers who provide services in the public sector and in the essential utilities. They include staff working full or part time in local authorities, the NHS, colleges and schools, electricity, gas and water industries, transport and the voluntary sector.

Most people join a union because they want protection at work, help with pay and conditions of service, legal or health and safety advice or representation when things go wrong at work. That's what we're here for. UNISON negotiates on pay and working conditions at every level, local, regional and national. But we also do a lot more. Being a UNISON member gives you a range of benefits and unbeatable deals. Click on the link to 'Membership Services' on the left-hand column for more information.

The lead employer of the Norfolk County Branch is Norfolk County Council. Other local authorities will have their own branches and if you wish to know more about these, please contact us. Within the Norfolk County Branch we cover a range of other employers, so read on for more information about how we work.

UNISON is a member-led trade union, meaning that all decisions are made by YOU, the member, and not full time staff. Our Annual General Meetings (AGMs) set Branch policy and are open for all to attend, they take place in late February each year.

Local stewards are there to represent you at work and help you find the answers to your problems. Stewards are fully trained and are your first point of contact. Sometimes your steward may look to a Senior Steward, Branch Officer or Regional Organiser for advice and support. Local stewards are all volunteers and play a vital role in recruiting new members and organising the Branch.

The Branch has several Officers who are available to advise members and stewards on specific issues like Health and Safety.
